May 9, 2025 - GENEVA, IL - The first extra-inning game of the season saw a Sioux City Explorers (2-0) victory over the reigning American Association champion Kane County Cougars (0-2) in a close 4-3 win. Austin Drury got the start for the X's and tossed seven scoreless frames, but the bullpens decided the contest.
It was a quiet first couple of innings at Northwestern Medicine Field. Austin Davis doubled in the first inning, but he was stranded at third base after Kurtis Byrne grounded out.

Robbie Glendinning, Peyton Holt and Isiah Gilliam sent the Legends Field crowd into a frenzy.

May 9, 2025 - (Gary, IN) Opening Day 2025 has arrived in the American Association, and the Gary SouthShore RailCats, entering their 22nd season as an organization, will kick off the season at Franklin Field in Milwaukee against the Milkmen.
Manager Lamarr Rogers enters his fourth season at the helm of the club. Rogers previously coached for the St. Paul Saints and the Astros organization. In 2015, he led the Greenville Astros to an Appalachian League Championship. Pitching coach Kent Willis for his third season in serving in the role. ... Full Story

A product of Cal-State Bakersfield, Jake Ortega was drafted by the New York Mets in the 28th round of the 2019 MLB June Amateur Draft. With a quick release behind the plate, Ortega has thrown out over thirty percent of would-be base stealers. Ortega last played for the Sioux City Explorers, in the American Association, in 2024.
